DrumsticksThough the origin of drumsticks is India, due to its medicinal uses it has reached other countries also. Different varieties and types of drumsticks are found in specific part of India. But no research has been done in different agricultural institute and universities. The universities in south India are ahead in these researches. With the research and considering the geographical conditions, there are following varieties of Drumsticks available -

Following varieties of Drumsticks are easily available in Tamil Nadu

» Coimbatore -1

This variety of Drumsticks most superior for production as well as for its quality.

Features
» You can yield the product twice within 6 months and a year.
» The stick is dark green in colour and tasteful
» The length of stick is 45 to 60 cms with more pulp inside. The average weight of each stick is 60 to 70 gram
» Each plant yields about 400 to 600 sticks per year. You can increase the product upto 1100 to 1250 also.
» Any normal kind of land can yield the product.
» You can yield to product for 8 to 10 years.

» Coimbatore 2

This variety is more popular in Tamil Nadu

Features
» The length of stick is 25 to 35 cm
» The stick is dark green in colour and tasteful.
» Each plant yields 250 to 375 sticks. Each stick is bulky.
» Each plant yields the product for 3 to 4 years.
» If the product is not taken from the plant earlier, the market value of the product is lost.

The variety is the research of Coimbator Agriculture university

Features
» After plantation, the plant bears flowers and you can yield the product in 8 to 9 months. You can get the production twice in a year.
» Each plant can yield 200 to 350 sticks each plant can yield production for 4 to 5 years.
» Each stick is larger in length hence the product has demand in market of big cities rather than local market cost is comparatively less.

» P. K. M. - 2

Features
» The raw stick of this variety is greenish in colour and tastes good.
» The length of each stick is 45 to 75cms.
» Each plant can yield 300 to 400 sticks.
» This variety is yields good product but requires more water.
